Ordering Cyclamen tubers online

Cyclamen, also called alpine violet bloom in autumn and winter and love a permanent spot. Cyclamen are hardy and naturalize easily in a shady location. Place the cyclamen tubers in water for a few hours before planting, that way they will root faster. Plant the large, flat tubers in humus-rich, well-drained soil in a spot in partial shade. Plant them just below the surface at a slight angle to allow excess water to run off. A cyclamen needs to be "established" for a few years before they reach optimal flowering. Cyclamen tubers are available almost all year round (while supplies last). Of course, you can be busy planning your garden or balcony and beautifying your surroundings in advance of the season. It is therefore possible, before the season begins, to already order online flower bulbs and tubers, so you are assured of your preferred choice of cyclamen tubers. The cyclamen tubers will be delivered, in a delivery week of your choice, at the right planting time! After you have placed an order, you will automatically receive an e-mail with an order confirmation. If you would like more information about ordering, please visit the page 'how to order'.

As soon as the cyclamen tubers are available they will be delivered at your doorstep. If you would like more information about shipping, please visit the page 'shipping and delivery'.

Different sorts of cyclamen

We offer different types of cyclamen. Choose cyclamen hederifolium (Neapolitan) for flowering in autumn and the cyclamen coum, for flowering in winter. To make your choice you can use the filter; choose for example the bulb size, flowering period, color, group or height.

History of the cyclamen

The name Cyclamen comes from the ancient Greek plant name 'Kyklaminas' ('Kyklos'), meaning circle or disc referring to the disc-shaped tubers. Around 1700 the genus received its name from J. de Tournefont. In 1753 the spelling was established by Linnaeus, namely 'Cyclamen'. The tuber can grow to be decades old, there are even specimens known that reached the hundred and still continued to bloom. The tubers contain saponins, substances that are toxic to humans in high concentrations. These substances are not poisonous to pigs, which is why the cyclamen was also called pig's bread in the Middle Ages. The first cyclamen is said to have been imported from Palestine in 1731 by the monk Reyntkens of St. Peter's Abbey in Ghent, Belgium. Breeding of the cyclamen did not begin until the 17th century in England, then in Germany and Switzerland. In 1739, the Haarlem nurseryman N. van Kampen offered 3 forms in his catalog. In 1875, Krelage's catalog listed 8 new large-flowered forms.
