Planting canna rhizomes

Officially canna belong to the bulbous and tuberous plants. Like irises and some anemones, they make rhizomes or rhizomes. Cannas are frost sensitive; the plants are not resistant to frost. Therefore, do not plant the rhizomes in the open ground until after frost.

Ordering canna rhizomes online

Canna rhizomes are available from March. Of course, you can plan your summer garden or balcony and beautify your surroundings before the season begins. Different kinds of cannas

We offer a wide range of canna's, we offer beautiful red, pink, yellow or orange coloured canna's. There are small types of canna from less than half a meter to canna of over a meter. The smaller canna's do well in pots or in the border. The large canna's look great as background plantings. Do not plant them in partial shade, as they will not produce flowers. For early flowering, you can pre-cultivate the canna indoors in March. There are many flowers that go very nicely with canna. For example, combine them with zantedeschias, dahlias and crocosmias. We offer a wide range of canna (while stocks last). To make your choice you can use the filter; choose for example the flowering period, color, group or height.

History of the canna

Originally the canna comes from Central and South America. The name is derived from the Celtic name cana: a name for a kind of reed, hence the name: flower reed. The French also call the plant the faux sucrier, the false sugar cane. At the beginning of the 19th century, the canna was first cultivated. By the end of this century, Italian and French breeders had developed a series of large-flowered hybrids (also called orchid-flowering or Italian cannabis). In the first decades of the 1900s, tropical gardens with large canna were very popular. Still today, we often see the familiar canna beds in municipal parks.
