Planting instruction for bulbs, rhizomes and seeds
Your spring garden is the ideal food source for bees, bumblebees, butterflies and other insects. By planting bee friendly flowers and plants, you are helping to increase the bee population. And we need bees to pollinate the plants that produce our food, namely fruits and vegetables.
A green environment full of nectar and pollen is the best way to attract bees and other insects. But bees are also attracted to colors like purple, blue, white and yellow. The benefit to you? Enjoying a colorful spring garden! Bee- and butterfly-friendly bulbs, plants and seeds are the perfect way to add color and life to your garden, patio or balcony.
Bee friendly flowers
At BULBi, we offer both bee and butterfly friendly spring and summer bloomers. This way, you'll enjoy a colorful garden for much of the year and bees and other insects will benefit longer from the flowers you've planted. Plant spring flowers such as muscari, crocuses, hyacinths, daffodils and tulips from October to December, before the first frost is in the ground. You will then enjoy the first emerging flowers early in the spring, right after winter. This is also the time when bees first fly out in search of nectar. So by planting early spring bloomers such as crocuses, galanthus and muscari you are actually providing an appetizer for the bees!
Butterflies love to sit in the warmth of the sun and live off flower nectar. They fly from flower to flower for a tasty snack. Therefore, plant plenty of different flowers in groups together. When planting the bulbs, observe 3x the width of the bulb for planting distance, and also observe 3x the height of the bulb for planting. The rhizomes, seeds and bulbs can be planted into the soil manually. For planting bulbs, it may be helpful to use a bulb planter.
